The Wool Art collection is inspired by motifs from Pirot rugs

Over the years of its existence, Wool Art has realized numerous projects, but some have taken a special place in our story. One of them was a collection of sweaters and cardigans inspired by motifs of the Pirot carpet – a fusion of hand-knitting and cultural heritage that has marked generations.

Why the Pirot carpet in particular?

The Pirot rug is not just a decorative object. It is a symbol identity, traditions and values which were passed down from generation to generation. His recognizable motifs carry meanings – from symbols of fertility and protection, to messages of happiness and prosperity. That is precisely why it was included in the list intangible cultural heritage of Serbia. For us, the inspiration was natural: we wanted to transfer the spirit of the Pirot carpet into clothing that is worn, loved, and remembered.

Sweater and cardigan collection

This special collection was entirely dedicated sweaters and cardigans. With great care, our teams translated rug motifs into knitwear, ensuring that each piece retained its authenticity while remaining comfortable and modern. The result was unique garments – warm, durable, and full of symbolism.

Every sweater and cardigan had its own story: the patterns were carefully chosen, and the color combinations were designed to convey the spirit of the Pirot carpet in a contemporary form. In this way, tradition took on a new face – it became a part of the everyday life of those who wore our creations.

Fashion as a bridge between the past and the present

The collection showed that fashion can be a powerful guardian of tradition. In a time when the value of handmade work is often forgotten, our sweaters and cardigans served as a reminder of how important authenticity and craftsmanship are. They were proof that cultural heritage is not only preserved in museums, but can also live through the pieces we wear every day.

The legacy that remains

Although this collection is not the newest, it still holds a special place in Wool Art today. For us, it was not just a fashion line, but a dedication to the Pirot carpet and the women who have woven its motifs for centuries. It was a story about how tradition and creativity together can create something unique and timeless.
